Gaelic Colourstrings

In 2009 Yvonne was invited to work in Sgoil Araich Glaschu on an innovative project using Colourstrings in Gaelic medium education.

Working with a primary school teacher from the Glasgow Gaelic School, the Singing Rascals books were translated into Gaelic and used in weekly Colourstrings music sessions run by Yvonne over an 18-month period.

In addition, Yvonne developed a training programme for a member of staff from the Primary School, and two students from the Traditional Music course at the then RSAMD (now Royal Conservatoire of Scotland) which led to them gaining their Colourstrings Associate Teacher Music Kindergarten qualifications.  Yvonne also ran training sessions for nursery and primary school staff to help embed the Colourstrings philosophy in the school.

As a result of the success of this project, Yvonne was then invited to work in other Gaelic medium education settings throughout central Scotland.

If you would like to discuss booking Yvonne to work in your Gaelic-speaking establishment, please get in touch.
“The children learn about rhythm and pitch through song without even realising they are learning!  Colourstrings sessions are fun, challenging and good for developing their Gaelic vocabulary.”

“I would highly recommend any early years establishment to involve their youngsters with Colourstrings. It offers them the opportunity to develop confidence within themselves, language acquisition, and is a fantastic opportunity to develop early music skills. Colourstrings has been very positively received by parents, staff and children. We can't praise it enough!”

“In Colourstrings the children have been really motivated to learn and are very attentive during the sessions.  The lessons Yvonne implements suit all learning styles. I have observed excellent progress in the children's concentration and participation.  The lessons are so varied and involve lots of active participation.  The children have picked up the songs really quickly and are developing a great understanding of rhythm.  They even sing the songs during class work!”   Glasgow Gaelic School P1 Teacher
